Plex Mediathek ohne Jailbreak auf dem Apple TV abspielen

Der Jailbreak für eine etwas ausführlichere Nutzung des Apple TV (3rd gen) lässt ja weiterhin auf sich warten…

Umso erfreulicher, dass man nun auch ohne Jailbreak das heimische Plex Media Center auf dem aktuellen Apple TV abspielen kann.

Dazu benötigt man einen kleinen DNS Hack namens PlexConnect, der sich über Apples Trailer App Zugang zum ATV verschafft und selbstverständlich auch mit einem ’non-jailbroken‘ ATV2 funktioniert.

Enter PlexConnect. The brainchild of Baa, roidy and f00b4r, it’s a super clever little hack which allows a rich, fully-functional Plex client on un-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3 (1080p!) devices. Essentially, you run a program on your computer which masquerades as the Trailer app. Next, change one setting on the ATV, and you’re up and running. It took me less than 2 minutes to install and get it running. It already uses the new transcoder (which means great support for subtitles), and I suspect it’ll support myPlex soon as well. In the PlexPass preview release of the media server, it also supports AC3 5.1 (remuxing and transcoding from DTS). Another cool thing: it supports iTunes DRM’ed video files.

Scamware · IntelliScreenX landet im iOS App Store

Irgendwie scheint Apple mit seinem Zulassungsprozess für Apps derzeit ein dezentes Problem zu haben, denn nach SBSettings ist nun auch der überaus beliebte Jailbreak IntelliScreenX im App Store gelandet.

Auch hier handelt es sich natürlich nicht um das Original, sondern Scamware, die nichts anderes als eine Uhr als Funktion vorweisen kann.

Vorsicht Betrug!!! SBSettings landet im iOS App Store // UPDATE

Und wieder mal ein Fall, der Apple und seinen Zulassungsprozess in ein schlechtes Licht rückt.

Die überaus beliebte Jailbreak-App SBSettings findet sich ab sofort im App Store.

Dabei handelt sich sich natürlich NICHT (!!!) um das Original, sondern einen mehr als schlampigen Rip-Off, bei dem nur die Uhr funktioniert.

App Store Beschreibung:

Welcome to convenience! Move your important toggles directly into Springboard where they are always available instantly even while other apps are running.

Notification center integration ios5
Customizable drop down window

Man kann echt nur hoffen, dass Apple endlich mal etwas sorgfältiger wird, damit solche Betrügereien nicht immer und immer wieder passieren.

Apple scheint mittlerweile wohl reagiert zu haben und hat die App aus dem App Store entfernt.

Display Recorder · Videos vom iOS Bildschirminhalt erstellen (iOS Universal)

Display Recorder, Display Recorder… richtig, gab es vor Urzeiten schon mit Hilfe eines Jailbreaks im alternativen App Store Cydia; hat es jetzt aber tatsächlich an den App Store Zwergen vorbei in den normalen iTunes App Store geschafft.

An der Funktion des Display Recorders hat sich prinzipiell nichts verändert. Die App zeichnet im H264 MP4 Format den Bildschirminhalt (Audio, Video) des iDevices auf und kann es direkt an YouTube senden.

List of features available on DisplayRecorder:

Records directly to high quality H264 mp4.

Records both video & audio.

On-device YouTube uploading.

Adjustable video orientation & quality settings.

Adjustable audio quality settings.

Export recorded video to Photo Library.

Hardware accelerated video encoding.

Eine Einschränkung gibt es aber doch: 3D Spiele sind von der Aufzeichnung ausgeschlossen. Warum das Ganze hier nicht funktioniert kann ich leider nicht sagen. Vielleicht einfach auf ein Update der Entwickler hoffen.

iOS 4.0 und ein iPhone 3GS werden minimal vorausgesetzt.

Abschließend bleibt zu sagen: Daumen drücken, dass die App dem Store erhalten bleibt. Es wäre leider nicht das erste Mal, dass Apple aus Versehen Apps zulässt und sie ein paar Tage später wieder aus dem Store löscht.

100 reasons to jailbreak your iOS device.

Zum Thema Jailbreak hatte Stefan vor einiger Zeit schon einen sehr guten Linktipp für Euch. Nachfolgend nun ein 3:30 Minuten langes Video, in dem nicht weniger als 100 Apps aus Cydia vorgestellt werden, mit denen man sein iPhone pimpen kann und die zeigen, was mit iOS alles möglich ist.

Ich bin mal gespannt, welche Ideen Apple für iOS 6 klaut. Eine genaue Auflistung der vorgestellten Apps, die alle mit iOS 5 auf dem iPhone 4S und iPad 2 getestet wurden, gibt es hier.

Peter schrieb mir gerade eine E-Mail, in der er auf Sparrow Push für unser kürzlich getestetes Sparrow Mail für iOS hinwies.

Dieser kostenlose Tweak ist über das Big Boss Repository verfügbar und soll sich nicht auf den Akku auswirken.

iPhone Jailbreak tweak for the popular iPhone app Sparrow, which enables eMail push notification when the app is in the background making Sparrow a real replacement for the stock Mail application.

Sparrow Push uses a very efficient implementation using the same APIs that VoIP apps like Skype use. Since there is an additional, permanent internet connection and Sparrow becomes active everytime there is activity in the email account, there will be a higher battery usage, but it should be comparable to what Apple Mail’s exchange push implementation is.

Ein installiertes Sparrow Mail für iOS ist für diesen Tweak natürlich Voraussetzung.

Kurz-Tipp: iPhone Setting Shortcuts

Die iPhone Setting Shortcuts sind nichts Neues. Jaaa ich weiß, aber ich möchte sie trotzdem noch mal erwähnen, eventuell hilft es Apple die Augen zu öffnen. ^^

Eine wirklich schicke und einfache Möglichkeit ist die extra dafür eingerichtete Webseite von Jeff Broderick, mit der man sich in ein paar Sekunden und völlig kostenlos ein paar seiner wichtigsten Shortcuts zu diversen System-Einstellungen einrichten kann, um sehr schnell Wlan, Bluetooth usw. an- und abzuschalten. Quasi ein SBSettings für ‚Nicht-Jailbreaker‘.

Funktioniert problemlos mit iOS 5.0.1. Außerdem können die dann entstandenen Shortcuts in einem Folder zusammengefasst werden. Ich habe die Hoffnung, das funktioniert auch nach den nächsten iOS Updates noch bzw. Apple baut direkte Schalter ins System bzw. Siri ein. Zeit wird es.
